New Delhi, July 6 (IANS) Uttar Pradesh Police have arrested a man for allegedly killing his girlfriend and disposing of her body parts at different locations after a dispute over her interaction with another person, officials said on Monday.

Jaunpur police said the case was solved within 14 hours of the recovery of the body.

Circle Officer Vijay Chaudhary said, “On July 5, 2026, at around 7:30 a.m., the body of an unidentified woman was found near the Ranipur Bypass. To identify the deceased and solve the case, the Senior Superintendent of Police constituted a joint team comprising the Surveillance Cell and Mariyahu Police Station. Within 14 hours, the team successfully solved the case and, following a police encounter, arrested the accused, a resident of Bhavnagar, Gujarat, who was currently living in Mariahu town. He sustained a bullet injury to his leg during the encounter and has been sent to the hospital for treatment.”

Police said the accused was traced using surveillance inputs and CCTV footage analysis. Further investigation is underway.

Officials said the crime was allegedly triggered after the accused became upset over the victim talking to another person.

Earlier in January this year, a similar incident was reported in Uttar Pradesh.

A man in Agra allegedly stabbed his girlfriend to death at his office, chopped her into pieces and stuffed them inside a bag, later disposed of it in the Yamuna River. The accused was arrested later after intensive manhunt.

The crime came to light on January 24 after police recovered a gunny bag containing human body parts. A day earlier, the woman’s family had filed a missing person complaint when she failed to return home.

Police constituted multiple teams and examined CCTV footage from nearby roads and surrounding areas to trace the victim’s last movements. The footage showed a man, identified as Vinay, a colleague of the victim, transporting a sack on the woman’s scooter.
