UP’s Fazil Nagar to be renamed as Pawagarh, in honour of Lord Mahavir

Lucknow, June 2 (IANS) Fazil Nagar Assembly seat in Kushinagar district of Uttar Pradesh is set to be renamed as Pawagarh. The announcement to this effect was made by UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday.

CM Yogi, addressing a gathering in Kushinagar, said that Fazil Nagar would be given a new identity and recognition as Pawagarh, in honour of Jain Tirthankar Lord Mahavir.

The Kushinagar district administration has already sent a proposal for the renaming of the city to the Chief Minister’s office.

Addressing the gathering, CM Yogi said, “A proposal has been sent to rename Fazilnagar as Pawagarh, which will connect the area with the legacy of Lord Mahavir and provide it with global recognition.”

“People from across the country and around the world will visit here, carrying forward the cultural legacy of Pawagarh,” he added.

The Chief Minister inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for 278 projects worth over Rs 424 crore in Kushinagar and also distributed certificates, approval letters and cheques to beneficiaries of various schemes.

Launching a scathing attack on previous dispensations for “prioritising anarchy over governance”, he said that former governments facilitated the production of country-made pistols to loot innocent people, while under the BJP government, the state was producing BrahMos missiles for national defence.

He said that under the double-engine government, encephalitis and mafia have been wiped out while a new environment of growth, security, employment and harmony is taking shape.

“Kushinagar, the sacred land associated with Lord Ram’s son Kush, Lord Buddha and Lord Mahavir, is today touching new heights of development, whereas a decade ago, it was struggling with an identity crisis. Mining mafia operated with impunity, farmers were exploited, they did not receive fair prices for their produce, health and education facilities were in poor condition, and reports frequently emerged of deaths due to hunger among members of the Musahar community in the Fazilnagar and Kasaya areas,” he stated.

The Chief Minister, further drawing a contrast with SP rule, said that the district, which earlier lacked basic medical care, including a full-fledged medical facility, is flourishing today, with its own medical college, agricultural & technical university and an international airport.
