Uttar Pradesh: Cowsheds to become new hubs of rural industry, each district to get unique cow-based identity

Lucknow, June 16 (IANS) The Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh government has launched a new initiative to link cattle conservation with the rural economy and employment generation in the state.

A cow-based rural industry, tailored to meet local resources and needs, will be developed in every district of the state, government officials said.

The Uttar Pradesh Gau Seva Aayog (Cattle Welfare Commission) has completed a comprehensive assessment of cattle shelters across the state and has now begun preparations to implement district-specific plans under the “One District-One Innovation” (ODOP) model.

Aligned with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s vision, this initiative aims to transform cattle shelters from mere sanctuaries for stray cattle into robust hubs for production, employment, natural farming, and rural entrepreneurship.

A detailed study has been conducted regarding the land, cattle population, water resources, Panchagavya units, and local market potential available at the cattle shelters.

Shyam Bihari Gupta, the Uttar Pradesh Gau Seva Aayog Chairman, said that distinct innovation models are being prepared for each district based on state-wide inspections and assessments.

In districts with high potential, activities such as biogas production, eco-paint manufacturing, organic manure and vermicompost production, and the creation of cow-dung-based and Panchagavya products will be promoted.

This will foster the development of small-scale industries at the local level and provide rural youth with new employment opportunities within their own districts.

Gupta noted that a strategy has been devised to convert local resources into income and employment through these district-specific innovation models.

Under the scheme, women’s self-help groups, youth, and rural entrepreneurs will be trained and integrated into the processes of production, processing, and marketing.

This will give fresh momentum to self-employment and entrepreneurship in rural areas.

The Gau Seva Aayog believes that the success of this model will enhance the economic self-reliance of cattle shelters, encourage natural farming, and strengthen the rural economy.

Each district in the state will also be encouraged to develop a unique cow-based identity, which will not only provide a market for local products but also serve as a new avenue for job creation.

The initiative is being viewed as a significant step towards simultaneously advancing the goals of cow conservation, rural development, Atmanirbhar Bharat, thereby creating a new foundation for economic activities in villages.
