Mumbai, July 27 (IANS) The office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Maharashtra, on Monday said that the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) program of electoral rolls is currently underway across the state.

Under this drive, voters currently enrolled in the voters’ list are required to fill out the enumeration form and submit it to their concerned Booth Level Officer (BLO), who will visit their residence by August 8, 2026. However, it is clarified that there is a strict prohibition of multiple registrations.

As per Sections 17 and 18 of the Representation of the People Act, 1950, no individual is permitted to register their name in the voter list at more than one location.

Voters listed in multiple places must submit the enumeration form only at their current residence. On the enumeration forms at their secondary locations, the status will be marked as “Already Enrolled,” and their names will not be included at those secondary locations.

Voters who complete and sign the enumeration form will have their names included in the draft electoral roll scheduled for publication on August 17, 2026. The draft electoral roll will be available at the office of the Voter Registration Officer, as well as on the official websites of the Election Commission of India and the Chief Electoral Officer, said the release.

Eligible voters whose names do not appear in the draft electoral roll, as well as newly eligible voters, can apply for inclusion using Form 6 (along with the necessary declaration and supporting documents) between August 17, 2026, and September 16, 2026. Following verification by the Voter Registration Officer, eligible names will be included in the final electoral roll.

During this one-month window (Claims and Objections period), Form 6 will be available for new voter registration/inclusion of name, Form 8 for correction of particulars/details in the existing rolls, and Form 7 wherein any elector in the constituency may make a deletion request.

“Making a false declaration or statement regarding name inclusion, correction, or deletion in the electoral roll is a punishable offence under Section 31 of the Representation of the People Act, 1950, carrying imprisonment up to one year, or a fine, or both,” warned the CEO’s office.

The Final Electoral Roll will be officially published on October 19, 2026. Pursuant to Sections 22 and 23 of the Representation of the People Act, 1950, corrections or inclusions in the electoral roll can still be made even after the publication of the final electoral roll.

Eligible persons can apply in the prescribed Form No. 6 to include their name after the publication of the final list.

Electoral roll revision is a continuous updating process, and under Section 23(3), such updates can be made up to the last date for filing nominations for any election. All citizens are requested to take note of this notice.
