India’s 80th Independence Day was celebrated in Western Australia at a reception hosted by Yaz Mubarakai MLA, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Regional Development, Ports, Science and Innovation and Medical Research, Kimberley, in collaboration with the Indian Society of Western Australia (ISWA).
The Consul General of India in Perth, Kajari Biswas, participated in the reception, which brought together Western Australian parliamentarians and members of the Indian community to commemorate the national occasion and celebrate the enduring friendship between India and Western Australia.
The gathering was attended by Dr Jags MLA, Member for Riverton; Kevin Michel MLA, Member for Pilbara; and Dr Parwinder Kaur MLC, Deputy Chair of Committees and Member for Western Australia.
The reception celebrated the shared values, enduring friendship and strong people-to-people connections between India and Western Australia. It also provided an opportunity for the Indian community and Australian representatives to come together in marking the important national occasion.
The Consul General conveyed her thanks to Roger Cook MLA, Premier of Western Australia, and the participating parliamentarians for joining the celebrations and for their contribution towards strengthening the warm and longstanding India-Western Australia relationship.
The event highlighted the importance of continued engagement between the Indian community, Western Australian parliamentarians and Indian diplomatic representatives in fostering the close ties between India and Western Australia.
