Will restore voting rights of those removed from voter list by June 4: Abhishek Banerjee

Kolkata, April 18 (IANS) Trinamool Congress General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee on Saturday promised to restore voting rights of those whose names were removed from West Bengal’s electoral rolls post Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise, by June 4.

Banerjee made this announcement while speaking at a rally in Lalbagh of Murshidabad district.

He reminded the TMC’s manifesto promise once again at the rally and assured all kinds of assistance to those whose names were left out of the voter list.

From the Lalbagh rally, Abhishek said, “Those whose names have been left out. Those whose names have been crossed out should not worry…. The results of the elections will be announced on May 4… our government will be formed. And a month after that, by June 4, our government will return your voting rights. No one can take away your rights.”

Taking a dig at the Election Commission, he said, “Once the election is over, there won’t be any control of Gyanesh Kumar here. Practically after 16 days, all your worries will be over. Then there will be a Trinamool government in the state again.”

Along with this, the Trinamool Congress General Secretary also attacked the Congress from the stage.

Taking a dig at the CPIM, Abhishek said, “I heard that the Left has not fielded a candidate in the Baharampur constituency. So will the Left vote for Congress candidate Adhir Chowdhury? Will they vote for the Congress, at whose hands the Left was once oppressed the most? Remember that giving votes to Congress means giving votes to the BJP. Both parties have a tacit understanding.”

Targeting the BJP, he said, “Now I see that BJP leaders who were not seen in the last 5 years are coming out before the elections and are cutting someone’s beard during campaigning, frying Luchi (Bengali flatbread) in someone’s house, cutting someone’s hair… I laugh at them. They will not be seen again after the election results.”

Abhishek further alleged, “ED has not spared anyone in my house… from my mother, father, 10-year-old daughter, 5-year-old son, personal assistant and lawyer. The central investigating agency has called me 15 times, and I have gone… I have come out and done a lot of damage to the BJP. We cannot surrender by selling our backbones.”
