A woman charged with murdering her husband at a Chapel Hill home, in Brisbane’s west, has faced court.
Katie Ann Corben, 36, appeared in the Brisbane Arrest Court on Thursday morning charged with the murder of her husband Jarred Castel, 35. The matter was quickly adjourned.
With peroxide blonde hair and wearing prison garb, Corben looked shaken and faced away from media.
Corben will face court again on January 29.
Police allege Mr Castel was involved in an altercation with his wife about 9pm on Wednesday when he “sustained a serious injury to the chest”.
He was treated at the Fig Tree Pocket Rd home before he was taken to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital where he later died.
Police confirmed a four-year-old boy was inside the home at the time of the incident.
Nearby neighbour Ellen Shanahan said she was shocked and devastated by the news.
“Jarred’s a very personable man and it’s heartbreaking,” she said.
“He would always smile and wave on my route to work every single morning.
“We can’t make sense of it.
“Something’s happened and we just don’t know what it is.”
Mr Castel’s business website describes him as a property developer and licensed real estate agent.
