Indore, April 14 (IANS) Emphasising the growing role of women in nation-building, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Tuesday said that the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam, commonly known as the Women’s Reservation Act, will open new avenues for women’s participation in governance and policymaking.

Addressing an event – the Nari Shakti Vandan Conference – organised at the Lata Mangeshkar Auditorium in Indore, the Chief Minister said, “The decision taken under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi is among the most important of this century. It will ensure that women have a stronger voice in the country’s democratic framework.”

Highlighting the significance of the legislation, he said that the Act provides for 33 per cent reservation for women in the Lok Sabha and State Legislative Assemblies, which will lead to more inclusive and balanced decision-making.

“This step will not only empower women politically but also strengthen the foundation of democracy,” he added.

The Chief Minister said that consistent policy decisions in recent years reflect Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s commitment to women’s welfare and dignity.

He noted that initiatives aimed at safeguarding women’s rights have contributed to their growing confidence and participation in public life.

Linking the move to India’s broader development vision, Yadav said the increased representation of women will be crucial in achieving the goal of a developed nation by 2047.

He also invoked the ideals of B. R. Ambedkar, stating that the Act carries forward his vision of equality and equal opportunity.

The event witnessed participation from a large number of women, including members of self-help groups, entrepreneurs, and representatives from cultural and social sectors.

Exhibitions showcasing products made by women’s groups were also organised, reflecting their growing contribution to economic activity.

BJP MLA Malini Gaur addressing the event on this occasion said the Act would mark a turning point by ensuring that women are not just beneficiaries of policies but active contributors to decision-making processes.
