The Australian Bureau of Statistics notes that Queensland’s population growth is driven significantly by net overseas and interstate migration, positioning it as home to 20.5% of Australia’s population as of June 2023. This influx of people from Britain, Germany, Italy, Greece, China, Japan, Malta, Spain, Israel, India, Nepal, Singapore, and many other countries cements Queensland as a truly multinational state.
Amidst this dynamic multicultural landscape, Bhartiya Samaj stands out as a beacon of cultural unity. Incorporated in Queensland in June 2022, this not-for-profit, non-political, and non-religious charity embodies the multicultural spirit of the state. Bhartiya Samaj’s mission is to foster an inclusive Australia by empowering migrants with knowledge, fostering confident identities, and facilitating community interactions.
Since its inception in 1995, the Bhartiya Samaj Charitable Trust has dedicated itself to supporting the South Asian community in New Zealand. This legacy of aid and solutions, irrespective of language, religion, or social standing, continues robustly in Queensland. The Brisbane chapter of Bhartiya Samaj upholds these core values by providing knowledge, building strong identities, and connecting with diverse communities, ensuring that migrants do not feel isolated but supported and empowered.
Bhartiya Samaj Brisbane focuses on three key areas, i.e. helping migrants settle in Queensland through effective information dissemination, building inclusive communities, and collaborating with other organizations to host joint events. This passion-driven organization is committed to making a positive impact in the community with unwavering determination and dedication.
Highlighting this commitment, Bhartiya Samaj is organizing the inaugural Empowering Migrants Expo on August 4 at Brisbane City Hall. This grand event will showcase the cultural heritage of over 30 indigenous and ethnic communities through art, music, dance, and handicrafts. The Expo aims to unite these diverse communities, celebrating their potential and common values, and fostering a spirit of camaraderie. By understanding each other’s cultures, the Expo promotes integration and unity with Queensland’s existing population.
