Brisbane City Hall came alive with colour and culture as Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner hosted the annual Diwali Civic Reception on 5 November, bringing together community leaders, cultural representatives, and families to celebrate the festival of lights. The event highlighted Diwali’s message of hope, compassion, and the enduring power of community spirit.
In keeping with tradition, guests exchanged greetings and shared cultural tokens that reflect Diwali’s values of warmth, gratitude, and togetherness. The Lord Mayor spoke about the symbolic significance of a flame, noting that it shines only when nurtured—much like the collective spirit that defines Brisbane’s multicultural community.
