Consul General of India in Perth, Kajari Biswas joined Eleni Georggopoulou, members of the Greek diplomatic community, and the wider Greek community in Western Australia to mark World Greek Language Day at the Taryn Fiebig Concert Hall at Churchlands School.
The event, organised in collaboration with the Greek–Australia Bar Association, celebrated UNESCO’s recognition of January 9 as World Greek Language Day, honouring the historical and cultural contribution of the Greek language to global civilisation. The occasion also commemorated Greece’s national poet, Dionysios Solomos, known for authoring the national anthem Hymn to Liberty.
Community members, artists, and cultural enthusiasts gathered for an evening of performances, poetry readings, and literary presentations that reflected the enduring legacy of Greek literature and thought. Speeches and artistic expressions highlighted themes of national pride, cultural identity, and shared human values.
The programme featured musical and cultural performances alongside recitations from renowned Greek poems and literary works, with organisers noting that the celebration sought to transcend linguistic boundaries through a shared appreciation for freedom, equality, and the spirit of humanity.
