Two men have died after their plane crashed into a turf farm south of Brisbane.
Emergency services were called to the scene at Allenview, in the Scenic Rim, after a person on a neighbouring property saw the plane “come out of the sky and crash”, Detective Inspector Garry Brown said.
“A witness has observed a plane flying above the turf farm here, and it’s gone into a bit of a spiral and crashed into the middle of the turf farm,” Inspector Brown said.
“It was one of the neighbours that saw the plane crash, but a couple of other people got to the aircraft first.”
The inspector said the investigation was in the “very early stages” and next of kin were yet to be notified but they were fairly sure about the identity of the men involved.
“There’s two males on the aircraft at the moment, believed to be an instructor and a trainee,” Inspector Brown said.
“(The plane) took off from Archerfield, can’t say where it was going, possibly a training flight.”
The aircraft involved in the crash was a Diamond DA-40, an Australian Transport Safety Bureau spokesman said.
He said the ATSB was sending a team of investigators from Brisbane and Canberra to the site.
Inspector Brown said forensic police would be assisting the ATSB with their investigation.
Earlier, a Queensland Ambulance spokesman said paramedics assessed two men at the scene but they were not taken to hospital.
A police spokesman confirmed two people were involved in the incident on Brookland Road, and emergency services were on site.
It is the second fatal light aircraft crash in Queensland in a week after two men died when their glider crashed in Dalby.
An experienced gliding instructor and a student had gone out for a flight about 9.30am on September 19, before the glider nosedived into a field.
