Chandigarh, May 8 (IANS) Director of Census Operations, Haryana, Lalit Jain, on Friday conducted a detailed review of the preparations for the upcoming Census operations in Gurugram.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Commissioner Uttam Singh, as well as senior officers, including tehsildars, and representatives from Municipal Corporation Gurugram and Municipal Corporation Manesar.

Addressing the meeting, Jain directed that the actual Census work should commence at the earliest.

He informed that the house-listing maps and other preliminary preparations for the Census had already been completed and that it is now necessary to accelerate field-level work.

He appealed to all enumerators and supervisors to report for duty on time, stating that the Census is an extremely important task for nation-building.

He further said that the department stands firmly with the employees in carrying out this work.

Jain stated that, given the favourable weather conditions, the Census work should be expedited to be completed within the stipulated timeline.

He also appealed to representatives of Resident Welfare Associations to allow Census personnel entry into their societies and premises and extend full cooperation in the Census operations.

He also reminded that refusing to provide information to Census personnel, furnishing incorrect information, or failing to cooperate with Census work is a punishable offence under the law.

On this occasion, Deputy Commissioner Uttam Singh also directed officials to initiate Census work without delay and stated that its progress would be reviewed weekly to ensure timely and effective completion.

The Census 2027, the world’s largest census exercise, began on April 1.

The Government of India has commenced Phase I of Census 2027, house listing and housing census, marking the beginning of the country’s largest administrative and statistical exercise.

This is India’s first-ever digital data capture and self-enumeration exercise.

The national enumeration exercise was initiated by enumerating President Droupadi Murmu through self-enumeration, upholding the proud tradition of commencing the national count with the First Citizen of India.
