Cr Balli Singh, the newly appointed Councillor in the City Council of Gosnells, recently met with Consul General (CG) Amarjeet Singh Takhi to discuss his vision for fostering a cohesive diaspora community and addressing the challenges faced by new immigrants, including students from India.
Cr Singh, who has been actively volunteering for the past 12 years, has contributed significantly to the community by assisting with business-related matters, providing support during bereavement and domestic violence cases, offering food relief to struggling families and individuals, combating elder abuse, and aiding in bushfire and COVID-19 relief efforts.
As only the second Indian-origin person to serve on the Council of the City of Gosnells, Cr Singh represents a significant Indian-Australian community, which includes numerous cultural associations and spiritual centers, such as the Sikh Gurudwara in Canning Vale and the Perth Hindu Temple.

The meeting between Cr Singh and Consul General Takhi highlighted the ongoing efforts to improve the integration and support systems for immigrants, highlighting the critical role of local leadership in enhancing the well-being and cohesion of the diaspora community.4
