The Federation of Indian Communities of Queensland Inc. (FICQ Inc.) recently concluded its Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Sunday, April 28, 2024, marking the transition of leadership and the commencement of a new chapter for the organization.
During the AGM, elections were held to select the new Executive Committee that will lead FICQ Inc. for the term 2024 to 2026. Dr Preethi Suraj, a distinguished Bio Technology Scientist with nearly two decades of experience, emerged as the newly elected President of FICQ Inc. This historic appointment makes Dr. Suraj the first female president in the 26-year history of FICQ Inc., a significant milestone for the organization.
Dr Suraj will be supported by a team of seasoned Indian community leaders, each bringing a wealth of experience and expertise to their respective roles. The new Executive Committee includes Abhishek Sharma and Pradip Gorasia as Vice Presidents, Krishnan Menon as Secretary, Sunita Avadhani as Assistant Secretary, Parul Mehta as Treasurer, Pankaj Agarwal as Assistant Treasurer, Jyoti-Amarjot Goraya as Festival and Cultural Coordinator, and Mokhtiar Singh as Public Relations Officer.
Expressing gratitude to the outgoing Executive Committee for their dedication and hard work over the past two years, the new team emphasized their commitment to working collaboratively with member organizations, community groups, and government stakeholders. Their shared vision is to strengthen ties within the Indian community of South East Queensland and enhance FICQ Inc.’s role as a leading advocate and representative body.
With Dr Preethi Suraj at the helm, FICQ Inc. looks forward to a period of growth, innovation, and inclusivity, aiming to address the needs and aspirations of the Indian community while fostering unity and collaboration across diverse groups and sectors.
