ECI modifies SIR schedule for Delhi, Punjab, Karnataka and Telangana

New Delhi, July 15 (IANS) The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Wednesday revised the schedule for Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in four states/UTs, namely Karnataka, Telangana, Punjab and Delhi.

The final publication of voters lists for Punjab and Telangana has been revised to October 12, while for Delhi and Karnataka, it has been scheduled a week later, on October 19. The respective poll bodies have been informed and advised by the ECI, via a letter signed by Under Secretary Sandeep Kumar, to complete the process as per the revised deadlines.

Punjab

The house-to-house visits by Booth Level Officers (BLOs), which started on June 25, have been extended to August 3, said the ECI’s Under Secretary Sandeep Kumar in a letter addressed to Punjab’s Chief Electoral Officer.

The rationalisation and re-arrangement of polling stations will be completed by August 3, while the draft publication will be made on August 13.

The period for filing claims and objections will be from August 13 to September 12, it said, adding that the notice phase/disposal of claims and objections will be carried out from August 13 to October 8.

The final publication of electoral rolls in the state has been slated for October 12, the ECI said.

Delhi

The house-to-house visits by Booth Level Officers, which started on June 30, have been extended till August 8.

According to EC’s intimation to the Delhi CEO, the rationalisation and rearrangement of polling stations will be completed by August 8, and the draft publication of the list will be done on August 17.

The period for filing claims and objections has been extended from August 17 to September 16, it said, adding that the notice phase/disposal of claims and objections will be carried out from August 17 to October 15.

The final publication of electoral rolls will take place on October 19, the ECI said.

Karnataka

The house-to-house visits by Booth Level Officers, which started on June 30, have been extended till August 8.

The rationalisation and rearrangement of polling stations will be completed by August 8, after which a draft publication will be issued on August 17.

The period for filing claims and objections will be from August 17 to September 16, it said, adding that the notice phase/disposal of claims and objections will be carried out from August 17 to October 15

The final publication of electoral rolls will take place on October 19, the ECI said in the letter.

Telangana

For Telangana, the house-to-house visits by BLOs, which started on June 25, have been extended till August 3.

The rationalisation and rearrangement of polling stations will be completed by August 3, and the draft publication of lists will be done on August 10.

The period for filing claims and objections will be from August 10 to September 9, it said, adding that the notice phase/disposal of claims and objections will be carried out from August 10 to October 8.

The final publication of electoral rolls will take place on October 12, the ECI said.
