Patna, July 15 (IANS) An early morning shooting in Bihar’s Begusarai district left a 27-year-old man critically injured, triggering panic among residents and prompting a large-scale police investigation.

The incident occurred in a lane in the Nagdah locality, behind Alka Cinema Hall, under the jurisdiction of the Town Police Station on Wednesday, where motorcycle-borne assailants allegedly opened fire on a young man.

The victim, identified as Devraj alias Deva (27), sustained a gunshot injury to his face and was rushed to a private hospital in Begusarai.

He is currently undergoing treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and his condition is reported to be critical.

Devraj is the son of Jawahar Sah, a resident of Chandpura village under the Gangaur Police Station area of Khagaria district.

He was residing in a rented house in the Nagdah locality while running a business.

Following the incident, teams from Dial-112, the Town Police Station, Sadar-1 DSP Anand Kumar Pandey, and the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) reached the spot and secured the crime scene.

In an official statement, Begusarai Superintendent of Police (SP) Manish said that scientific evidence was collected during the investigation and that the victim, in his statement to the police, named Raja Kumar, Mantu Yadav, and Vipul Kumar as the accused.

According to the victim’s statement, the three men allegedly confronted him over a previous dispute, verbally abused and assaulted him, following which Mantu Yadav allegedly opened fire, seriously injuring him.

The accused fled the scene after the shooting.

During the forensic examination, investigators recovered two spent cartridge cases and one live cartridge from the spot.

The evidence has been seized and sent for forensic analysis. Blood samples and other material evidence were also collected to assist the investigation.

Police officials, including DSP Anand Kumar Pandey and Town SHO Satish Kumar Himanshu, inspected the scene and questioned local residents.

CCTV footage from nearby locations is being examined, while investigators are also analysing mobile location data and other technical evidence to trace the movements of the accused before and after the incident.

Preliminary findings suggest that the attack may have stemmed from an old personal dispute or rivalry, although police said all possible angles are being investigated, and the exact motive will be established only after the probe is completed.

An FIR has been registered as Town Police Station Case No. 323/2026 under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 27 of the Arms Act.

A Special Investigation Team headed by Sadar-1 DSP, Anand Kumar Pandey, has been formed to track down the accused.

Police said raids are being conducted at multiple suspected locations and expressed confidence that the accused would soon be arrested based on scientific evidence, CCTV footage, and technical inputs.

The incident has created fear among residents of the locality, with locals expressing concern over law and order in the city.

Police have intensified patrolling in the area and increased surveillance to prevent further incidents.

SP Manish said that no one involved in the crime would be spared and assured that the case would be solved through a comprehensive investigation backed by forensic and technical evidence.
