Kolkata/Agartala, May 9 (IANS) Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, his counterparts Manik Saha (Tripura), Pema Khandu (Arunachal Pradesh), Conrad K. Sangma (Meghalaya), Neiphiu Rio (Nagaland), Prem Singh Tamang (Sikkim), and Yumnam Khemchand Singh (Manipur) attended the swearing-in ceremony of Suvendu Adhikari along with the Council of Ministers, which was held at Brigade Parade Ground in Kolkata.

West Bengal Governor R.N. Ravi administered the oath of office and secrecy to new Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari along with the Council of Ministers.

The Chief Ministers of the Northeastern states described the occasion as a historic milestone in the Bharatiya Janata Party’s political journey.

Taking to the social media platform X, Assam Chief Minister Sarma wrote: “History is scripted in Bengal! I extend my warm congratulations and best wishes to Shri Suvendu Adhikari on taking oath as the first-ever Bharatiya Janata Party Chief Minister of West Bengal.”

Sarma also extended his compliments to the newly appointed members of the Council of Ministers, comprising Dilip Ghosh, Agnimitra Paul, Ashok Kirtania, Kshudiram Tudu, and Nisith Pramanik, for being an integral part of history in the making.

“Under the leadership of Adarniya PM Modi ji, I am sure your administration will be on the job right from Day 1 to secure our borders, safeguard the rich identity of the state, and bring back development and investments to Bengal to reclaim the true essence of ‘Shonar Bangla’. For the last many years, we have witnessed, heard, and learnt about the indomitable sacrifices of our Karyakartas in Bengal,” the Chief Minister said.

Sarma further said: “Today is indeed a fitting tribute to each one of them. Today also marks a new chapter in our civilisational journey. Anga, Banga, Kalinga, and Pragjyotish are now governed by an administration deeply rooted in preserving Santani values.

“These sacred lands carry the spiritual legacy of our Nari Shakti. It is in this Purva Bharat where Maa Kamakhya, Maa Tripura Sundari, Maa Tara Tarini, Maa Kali, and Maa Janaki reside. With Maa’s blessings, may a new chapter begin for our region,” the Assam Chief Minister said.

Congratulating the new Bengal Chief Minister, Tripura Chief Minister Saha, in his post on X, said: “Today, the tears and sacrifices of countless Bharatiya Janata Party Bengal Karyakartas have found their voice. This isn’t just a win; it’s the culmination of a long, selfless struggle against all odds to protect the soul of Bengal.”

“With the blessings of Hon’ble PM Modi, the dream of a Double Engine Government is now a reality,” Saha said.

“We move forward with the strength of the Centre and the heartbeat of Bengal working as one. A new dawn of peace and ‘Sonar Bangla’ has finally arrived, marking a new beginning on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore Ji. Best wishes, Suvendu Da,” he added.

Meghalaya Chief Minister and National People’s Party supremo Conrad K. Sangma said in a post on X: “May this new political era in West Bengal be marked with never-before-seen progress. My best wishes to him and his Cabinet.”

Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu congratulated the people of West Bengal for voting for the Bharatiya Janata Party by a huge margin.

“I think this will be a historic day not only for West Bengal, but for the entire country, especially the Northeast. It will be a game-changer,” he told the media in Kolkata.

In a post on X, Khandu wrote: “Witnessed a historic moment in the political landscape of the nation as the Bharatiya Janata Party forms government in West Bengal, the gateway to Eastern and Northeastern India.”

“My heartfelt thanks to Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji and Hon’ble Home Minister Shri Amit Shah ji for their visionary leadership and relentless efforts that have made this achievement possible. Heartiest congratulations to Shri Suvendu Adhikari ji on taking oath as the first Bharatiya Janata Party Chief Minister of West Bengal.”

The Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister said that this mandate would undoubtedly pave the way for accelerated development, prosperity, and a brighter future for the state.

Taking to his official X account, Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang said: “This historic moment marks the beginning of a new chapter of development, good governance, and progress for the people of West Bengal.

“May this new leadership bring peace, growth, empowerment, and transformative opportunities across Bengal. Wishing the entire team immense success in serving the people with integrity and vision.”
