New Delhi, May 24 (IANS) Union Home Minister Amit Shah will attend a grand “Janjati Sanskritik Samagam” (Tribal Cultural Conclave) as the chief guest at the historic Red Fort grounds in Delhi on Sunday, commemorating the 150th birth anniversary year of tribal icon Bhagwan Birsa Munda.

The mega cultural gathering is expected to draw nearly 1.5 lakh representatives from more than 550 tribal communities across the country.

The event is being organised to celebrate tribal identity, indigenous traditions and cultural heritage, while honouring the contribution of tribal communities to India’s history and nation-building.

Ahead of the conclave, an important preparatory meeting was held at Shyam Giri Temple in Delhi, where organisers and community representatives reviewed arrangements related to participation, cultural programmes, logistics, and security.

The conclave is being organised by the Janjati Suraksha Manch and is expected to become one of the largest tribal gatherings held in the national capital. Organisers said colourful cultural processions featuring tribal men and women in traditional attire, carrying indigenous musical instruments, will begin from five different locations across Delhi before converging at the Red Fort venue.

The programme will also showcase tribal folk dances, traditional music, handicrafts, and exhibitions highlighting the rich cultural diversity of tribal communities from different states. Around 100 distinguished tribal personalities from fields such as sports, education, social service, and culture are also expected to be honoured during the event.

Organisers said that this would be the first time such a large number of tribal participants from remote forest and hill regions across India would assemble in the national capital for a cultural programme of this scale.

To ensure smooth conduct of the event, multiple committees along with around 20 departments have been deployed to manage key arrangements, including accommodation, transport, food, drinking water, medical facilities, security, and cleanliness across various venues in Delhi.

They also urged media organisations to give wide coverage to the conclave, describing it as an important national event aimed at promoting unity, cultural pride, and the rich traditions of India’s tribal communities.

Bhagwan Birsa Munda is remembered as one of India’s most revered tribal freedom fighters who led a major resistance movement against British rule and fought to protect tribal faith, identity, and traditions.
