High Commissioner of India to Australia Nagesh Singh met Prof. Jiantao Xi, Interim Pro Vice-Chancellor, Global Engagement, and his team at the University of Wollongong to discuss opportunities for deeper cooperation between India and Australia in higher education, research and innovation.
The discussions included the university’s plans and engagement relating to its campus in GIFT City, India. The meeting also explored opportunities to expand collaboration in areas of higher education, research and innovation.
The engagement reflects the growing importance of educational and research partnerships in the broader Australia-India relationship. Greater cooperation between universities and research institutions can create opportunities for academic exchange, joint research and innovation, while strengthening institutional links between the two countries.
The meeting also highlighted the University of Wollongong’s engagement with India and the potential for its presence in GIFT City to contribute to closer education and research connections between Australian and Indian institutions.
Singh’s interaction with the university leadership forms part of continued efforts to promote stronger institutional partnerships and people-to-people links between India and Australia.
