The Consulate General of India, Sydney, in partnership with the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre (SVCC), Sydney, and IABBV Hindi School, celebrated Hindi Diwas 2026 with a programme showcasing Hindi language, literature and Indian cultural traditions.
The event received an enthusiastic response, with more than 300 community members attending the programme. The celebration highlighted the role of Hindi language and cultural activities in connecting younger generations with India’s linguistic and cultural heritage in Australia.
Nirad Kumar Sawhney, Head of Chancery and Acting Director of SVCC at the Consulate General of India in Sydney, addressed the gathering and highlighted the role of language learning in strengthening cultural identity and fostering social impact. He also presented awards recognising excellence and outstanding efforts in Hindi.
A number of distinguished guests attended the celebration, along with representatives from the NSW Department of Education and members of the wider community.
The celebration featured a range of cultural performances, including soulful musical presentations, a Hindi skit carrying a social message and student showcases. The programme also included a graceful Rajasthani Ghoomar folk dance, a classical Odissi performance, a colourful Bollywood dance and a lively Bhangra finale that brought students and guests together.
The programme further featured recitations by winners of the IABBV and Vinita Luthra Hindi Poetry Recitation Competition, providing a platform for young participants to showcase their Hindi language skills and creative expression.
