The Consulate General of India, Perth, joined an International Day of Nonviolence event organised by Ahinsa Australia Inc, led by its president Dr Mukesh Jain, bringing together community members and children for an evening highlighting peace and nonviolence.
Consul General of India, Perth, Kajari Biswas, addressed the event, which featured music, dance and a short skit presented by members and children from the community. The programme focused on nonviolence as a principle of daily life.
The event was attended by Dr Parwinder Kaur MLC, representing Minister for Police, Emergency Services and Great Southern Reece Whitby MLA; Basil Zempilas, Leader of the Opposition; Rikki Hendon, Secretary of Unions WA; Dr Divya Sharma, President of the Indian Society of WA (ISWA); Sarah Morris, CEO of the Police Union; and Said Padsha, Director of Community Engagement.
The gathering provided an opportunity for participants to reflect on the values of peace, nonviolence, compassion and service to humanity, while highlighting the continuing relevance of Mahatma Gandhi’s message in contemporary society.
