India lost to Pakistan by 180 runs in ICC Champions Trophy 2017 final
India were outplayed in every department of the game of cricket as Pakistan won the ICC Champions Trophy 2017. This was Pakistan’s maiden Champions Trophy and they beat India by 180 runs to get there after dismissing India for a paltry 158.
Some facts from the match:
- The margin of victory for Pakistan, 180, was the biggest in the final of any ICC ODI event. India were at the receiving end at The Oval. This is the fifth-highest margin in any final; the largest is 245, and India were at the receiving end there too, against Sri Lanka in the Coca Cola Champions Trophy in 2000.
- Pakistan’s total of 338 was their highest in any tournament final, and their second-highest in an ODI against India. Their highest against India is 344, but that was in a chase of 350.
- 45 Runs scored by Zaman off R Ashwin, was the most runs scored by any batsman off Ashwin in an ODI. He went past Brendan Taylor’s 42 off 27 balls against Ashwin in the 2015 World Cup game in Auckland.
- 13 Wickets for Hasan Ali, which made him the joint leading wicket-taker in any Champions Trophy tournament. Jerome Taylor had also taken 13 in the 2006 tournament, which was held in India.
