Bhopal, May 13 (IANS) The India Meteorological Department centre in Bhopal has issued a warning for Madhya Pradesh detailing a complex atmospheric situation characterised by an impending severe heat wave alongside localised thunderstorm activity.

For the immediate evening hours, a moderate thunderstorm with lightning and potential hail, featuring wind speeds of up to 60 kilometres per hour, is anticipated over Balaghat and Sheopur Kalan.

Residents in south Mandsaur, Ratlam, Ujjain, Dewas, central Sagar, south Betul, Pandhurna, east Dindori, south Chhindwara, south Seoni, and Singrauli should also prepare for light thunderstorms with lightning.

Over the past 24 hours, light rainfall and gusty winds have been recorded in districts such as Morena, Gwalior, and Bhind, with Alipur and Prithvipur receiving 4 millimetres of rain.

According to the synoptic weather report, a cyclonic circulation currently lies over Jammu at 3.1 kilometres above mean sea level, while another circulation persists over southwest Madhya Pradesh at 0.9 kilometres above mean sea level.

Furthermore, an east-west trough extends from this southwest Madhya Pradesh circulation across to Manipur, and a north-south trough runs from the same region down to south interior Karnataka.

Despite localised storms, the primary concern for the next five days is a severe heat wave.

Health officials have advised the public to stay hydrated by drinking water, oral rehydration solution, or traditional drinks such as lassi and lemon water.

It is recommended to avoid outdoor activities between noon and 3 p.m., wear light-coloured cotton clothing, and ensure children or pets are never left in parked vehicles.

Farmers are encouraged to use light, frequent irrigation and avoid applying fertilisers or pesticides during peak heat hours.

A fresh western disturbance is expected to reach northwest India by May 15, potentially further influencing these weather patterns.
