New Delhi, May 12 (IANS) Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta conducted a surprise inspection of Lok Nayak Jai Prakash (LNJP) Hospital, a development that came on the eve of International Nurses Day on Tuesday, an official said.

The Chief Minister visited various wards of the hospital, met with the nursing staff, and lauded their spirit of selfless service.

She spent time speaking with nurses in an informal, heartfelt manner, listening to their experiences and acknowledging the challenges of their profession, according to an official statement.

As a gesture of appreciation, the Chief Minister presented flowers to the nursing staff, an act that left many of them visibly emotional.

Several nurses also clicked selfies with the Chief Minister and described the interaction as one of the most memorable moments of their careers.

Addressing the staff, CM Rekha Gupta said, “Nursing is not merely a profession but a reflection of compassion, humanity, and service.”

“Doctors provide treatment, but it is nurses who give patients emotional strength and care that often helps them heal,” she said, adding that the patience and commitment shown by nurses in difficult circumstances are truly inspiring.

The Chief Minister also interacted with nursing staff from different states, including Kerala, Rajasthan, and Punjab.

She noted that healthcare workers coming from across the country have played a major role in strengthening Delhi’s healthcare system and helping it achieve world-class standards.

On the occasion of International Nurses’ Day on Tuesday, Delhi Health Minister Dr. Pankaj Kumar Singh greeted the nursing fraternity, acknowledging their indispensable role in strengthening the healthcare system and serving humanity with dedication and compassion.

Addressing a special programme organised at Lok Nayak Hospital (LNJP Hospital) in the MAMC Auditorium, the Health Minister said that nursing is not merely a profession but a symbol of care, sensitivity, and selfless service.

He said that when a child is born, the first person after the mother to care for the newborn is a nurse, underscoring the importance of empowering and supporting the nursing community.

Dr. Pankaj Kumar Singh highlighted the critical role of nurses in patient care, stating that, along with doctors, they form the backbone of the healthcare system. From providing emotional support to ensuring continuous care and treatment, nurses contribute significantly to improving patient confidence and recovery outcomes, he said.

Furthermore, the Health Minister congratulated LNJP Hospital for securing the top position in the prestigious Kayakalp Awards for cleanliness and sanitation standards, calling it a reflection of the dedication and collective efforts of healthcare professionals, including nursing staff.
