Kejriwal may have to apologise to Gadkari once again, this time on E20: Delhi BJP

New Delhi, July 14 (IANS) Delhi Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapoor on Tuesday shared on social media a copy of the apology letter that AAP Convenor Arvind Kejriwal had personally handed over to Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari on March 16, 2018, in a defamation suit.

Kapoor said that the day is not far when Arvind Kejriwal will once again have to apologise to Gadkari before the entire nation over the ethanol-petrol issue.

The Delhi BJP Spokesperson added that over the past two months, Kejriwal has reverted to his old political formula from the 2009–2013 period — making allegations against political leaders and then moving on.

However, the AAP Convenor has forgotten that while he was an untested political figure between 2009 and 2013, the country witnessed enough of his corruption between 2013 and 2025, and as a result, he has now lost his credibility.

The Delhi BJP Spokesperson said that a “politically defeated” and “frustrated” Kejriwal is only making himself a subject of ridicule by trying every day to provoke the nation over the issue of ethanol-blended petrol.

He added that if the kind of misinformation and confusion that Kejriwal is spreading regarding ethanol-blended petrol were true, roads and highways should be lined with broken-down vehicles and traffic jams should be commonplace.

Kejriwal should tell the public where such a situation can be seen — either in Delhi or anywhere else in the country, he said.

The AAP Convenor and former Delhi Chief Minister has been vehemently opposing the rollout of E20 fuel, voicing concerns over alleged poor performance and poor mileage.

Kejriwal claimed that several mechanics had told him that an increasing number of vehicles were reaching their workshops with complaints related to fuel system and engine problems.

The Union Petroleum Ministry said on Friday that India’s ethanol blending programme did not begin under the present Union government and the initiative has a long institutional history and milestones.

It said that the transition from E10 to E20 ethanol blending was not based on assumptions, but on years of testing, manufacturer consultations and field experience.

“A pilot ethanol blending programme was launched in 2001, formally announced in 2004, and E5 (5 per cent ethanol blending) was rolled out across several states by 2006. The policy framework was subsequently notified in the Gazette of India in January 2013 during the UPA government. These are matters of public record,” the Ministry said in a detailed statement.
