A man wanted over the discovery of a woman’s body at a house in Rockhampton this morning is believed to have been killed after crashing into a police car.
The police vehicle burst into flames after the crash in Emu Park Road, Livingstone, about 7:00am.
The suspect died at the scene and the police officer in the car suffered a number of injuries.
Police have been investigating the death of a 53-year-old woman whose body was found at a house in Mills Avenue in the suburb of Frenchville.
Officers were called to the house about 6:00am after the woman’s daughter made the discovery.
Earlier today Detective Acting Inspector Luke Peachey said police were looking for a suspect.
He said it was unclear if the victim and suspect were known to each other.
“Currently a crime scene has been declared and we are treating the death as suspicious,” he said.
“We’ll also now have investigators running out a number of inquiries with the view of trying to locate a person that we saw leaving these premises just before six this morning.”
Inspector Peachey said forensic officers were at the scene.
“Hopefully it will give us a clearer idea of how this person came to be deceased,” he said.
Police have since said it was believed the man that officers had wanted to speak to was behind the wheel of the car that drove into the police vehicle.
The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene and police are investigating the circumstances of his death.
Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death and the traffic crash are continuing.
