Hundreds of people gathered at Moorooka’s Luxworth Place-Manmeet’s Paradise – on Sunday morning, 23rd April 2017 from 10 am to 11am, to honour Manmeet Sharma, the bus driver who was murdered while on duty. The 29-year-old, Mr Sharma, was driving the bus, the day he was burnt to death in an unprovoked attack. He was a musician, taxi and bus driver and an active community worker.
Councillor Angela Owen, who attended the ceremony, announced council’s progress in creating a permanent memorial for the slain driver.
The first concept plan of the memorial was formed by the family and friends of Manmeet, the Rail, Tram and Bus Union, local community and council. A bust of Manmeet was presented to Brisbane City Council, by his family to sit safely in Moorooka Ward Office of Councillor Steve Griffith.
