The 10,000-strong Pride march through inner Brisbane and soaring temperatures combined to create congestion headaches for Brisbane drivers, with major roads and highways clogged.
Australian Traffic Network reporter Olympia Kwitowski said the delays started about 10.30am with the closure of roads intersecting with Brunswick Street for the Pride March.
More than two-and-a-half hours after the Brisbane Pride March later the Valley and neighbouring New Farm were still feeling the effects despite the road closures being cleared away, with heavy congestion remaining across both suburbs.
The march also caused delays on the Story Bridge, with inbound traffic queuing several kilometres back to East Brisbane. Escape routes to avoid the bridge were also clogged.
Meanwhile, drivers hoping to escape from Brisbane (and the heat) also endured a slow journey along the major highways leading to the Gold and Sunshine Coast.
The M1 southbound was clogged for about 20 kilometres between Yatal and Oxenford, while the Bruce Highway northbound was congested for 10 kilometres between Burpengary and Caboolture.
