Guwahati, Aug 3 (IANS) Assam Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, on Monday said that power restoration work in flood-hit Sivasagar district is progressing steadily, with electricity supply being restored to a large number of consumers over the past 24 hours.

Sharing an update on social media, the Chief Minister said power department teams have safely reconnected several transformers, significantly reducing the number of affected consumers in the district.

“Encouraging progress on power restoration. Over the last 24 hours, our teams have safely reconnected many more transformers, bringing down the number of affected consumers in Sivasagar by nearly 58 per cent. We are steadily moving towards full normalisation of the power situation,” Sarma said.

According to the latest flood impact and power supply status released by the Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL) at 8 a.m. on Sunday, only 2,274 consumers in Sivasagar district remain affected, a sharp decline following restoration efforts.

The report showed that all 33 kV transmission lines and 33/11 kV substations in the district are fully operational, with no faults reported. There are also no disruptions in the 11 kV feeder network, except for one feeder that remains disconnected due to an alternate source arrangement.

However, 61 distribution transformers (DTRs) are yet to be reconnected, mainly in flood-affected pockets, resulting in power disruptions for a limited number of consumers.

Among the worst-affected areas, Sesa-D2 (Sivasagar ESD-II) has 920 consumers without electricity, followed by Gaurisagar with 799 consumers and Sivasagar ESD-I with 375 consumers.

Nazira has 180 affected consumers, while power supply has been fully restored in Amguri and Demow subdivisions.

The restoration drive follows widespread disruptions caused by the recent floods that inundated several parts of Upper Assam, damaging electrical infrastructure and affecting thousands of households.

The state government and APDCL have intensified restoration efforts in the flood-hit districts, deploying field teams to repair damaged infrastructure and reconnect electricity supply.

Officials said work is continuing in the remaining affected areas to ensure complete normalisation of power services at the earliest.
