Devotees gathered at the AUMSAI Sansthan Temple in Melbourne for a joyous celebration of the Sri Ramanavmi – Sri Sita Rama Kalyanam festival, marking the birth of Lord Rama, recently. The blissful event, which took place recently, brought together religious leaders, community members, and special guests to commemorate this sacred Hindu festival.
Consul General Dr Sushil Kumar, Emma Vulin MP, and other distinguished guests joined the festivities, participating in traditional rituals and cultural activities that define the Sri Ramanavmi festival. The event included the Shej Arati, a revered ritual, followed by the distribution of Mahaprasadam, a blessed offering shared among devotees.
The highlight of the celebration was the Kalyanamahotsavam, a grand wedding ceremony reenacting the marriage of Sri Rama with his consort Sita. This vibrant and colourful ceremony, which is celebrated on the holy occasion of Sri Ramanavmi, is a significant event in the Hindu calendar, often occurring in the last week of March or the first week of April.
Throughout the celebration, the temple grounds were filled with joyous music, traditional dance performances, and vibrant decorations, creating a festive atmosphere. Devotees from various backgrounds came together to partake in the festivities, sharing stories of Lord Rama’s teachings and his divine role in the Hindu epic, the Ramayana.
