Mumbai, June 27 (IANS) Veteran playback singer Sudesh Bhosale fondly remembered legendary music composer Rahul Dev Burman, popularly known as Pancham Da, on his birth anniversary on June 27.
The stalwart singer also revealed that the legendary singer was the person who have him his first break in the Hindi film industry.
Sharing a series of rare throwback pictures with the music maestro, Bhosale expressed gratitude to RD Burman for giving him his first break as a playback singer in the 1986 film ‘Zalzala’.
Taking to his social media account, Sudesh shared nostalgic pictures featuring himself with R.D. Burman. One picture shows the two posing together for the camera, while another captures them performing live on stage during a musical concert.
Alongside the pictures, he wrote, ‘Remembering Pancham Da on his Birth Anniversary. He gave me my 1st break as a playback singer in the movie ZALZALA in the year 1986. He was one of the best music directors our Hindi film industry has ever seen. Such a versatile composer, singer, musician and above all, a wonderful human being. His music will continue to inspire generations. Miss you Pancham Da.’
For the uninitiated, R.D. Burman is touted to be one of Indian cinema’s most celebrated music composers, and was born on June 27, 1939. The son of legendary composer S.D. Burman, Pancham Da carved a niche for himself with his innovative compositions that blended Indian melodies with Western influences, jazz, rock, funk and Latin rhythms.
During his illustrious career spanning over three decades, he composed music for more than 300 films, and delivered timeless classics in movies such as ‘Amar Prem’, ‘Hare Rama Hare Krishna’, ‘Yaadon Ki Baaraat’, ‘Aandhi’, ‘Sholay’, ‘Hum Kisise Kum Naheen’, ‘Satte Pe Satta’, ‘1942: A Love Story’ and many more. Songs like ‘Dum Maro Dum’, ‘Chura Liya Hai Tumne Jo Dil Ko’, ‘Mehbooba Mehbooba’, ‘O Haseena Zulfonwali’, ‘Yeh Shaam Mastani’ and ‘Tujhse Naraz Nahi Zindagi’.
Talking about the movie, Zalzala, the movie released in 1988, was directed by Harish Shah and featured Dharmendra, Shatrughan Sinha, Rajiv Kapoor, Anita Raj, Kimi Katkar and Puneet Issar in pivotal roles.
