New Delhi, May 27 (IANS) A 13-year-old boy died while a woman was injured in a fire that broke out at a house in the Khyala area of West Delhi on Wednesday, officials said.

The deceased has been identified as Jaspreet, while the injured is 65-year-old Swamjeet Kaur.

According to the Delhi Fire Services (DFS), a distress call was received at around 2:45 a.m. on Wednesday regarding a fire on the ground floor of a house in Khyala’s Vishnu Garden.

Fire and relief officials immediately reached the spot and launched the rescue operations. However, Jaspreet and Swamjeet Kaur had sustained burn injuries due to the fire.

According to the officials, both were rushed to Guru Govind Hospital in Raghubir Nagar by neighbours before the DFS unit arrived.

However, Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Dr Antara declared Jaspreet ‘brought dead’ upon arrival at the hospital.

Meanwhile, officials mentioned that Swamjeet Kaur sustained 35 per cent burns and is currently undergoing treatment.

The officials stated that the fire is suspected to have started from an electric scooter on the ground floor, subsequently spreading throughout the entire floor.

This comes a day after a fire broke out in a three-storey house located in Delhi’s Vijay Vihar Phase-2 on Tuesday morning. All the residents were safely evacuated by the rescue officials, the Delhi Fire Service (DFS) said.

The DFS received the information about the blaze in a house in Gali No. 5 of Vijay Vihar Phase-2 at around 7:06 a.m. on Tuesday. Following this, three fire tenders were immediately rushed to the spot, according to the officials.

The fire department officials stated that the fire initially started in the parking area of the house and gradually spread to the upper floors.

During the incident, people trapped inside the house were safely rescued by the DFS team.

Fire was doused after relentless efforts by the firefighting teams.

Officials said that it is still not clear what led to the fire, and an enquiry is ongoing to ascertain the cause.
