New Delhi, June 16 (IANS) A 24-year-old accused who was wanted in a case of culpable homicide and was absconding for a year, has been arrested, police said on Tuesday.
According to police officials, a First Information Report (FIR) was registered on April 20, 2025, at Anand Parbat Police Station pertaining to a serious assault incident wherein the victim was allegedly intercepted and assaulted by a group of people with a reportedly pre-planned motive. Due to the severity of the injuries sustained during the attack, the victim was hospitalised and subsequently succumbed during treatment.
During the course of investigation, the main accused, Sundar Lal, a resident of Anand Parbat, was arrested, and a juvenile was also apprehended in connection with the case. However, another accused, identified as Tanveer, remained absconding and continuously concealed his whereabouts to evade arrest and legal proceedings.
On June 14, a dedicated team comprising Inspector Ranveer Singh (Anti-Terrorist Officer), Head Constable Sarvan, Constables Manish Yadav, Lokesh, and Manjeet was constituted under the supervision of Inspector, Station House Officer of Anand Parbat Police Station, and the overall supervision of Assistant Commissioner of Police/Police Naik, to apprehend the absconding accused.
Police said that continuous efforts were made by the investigating team, including conducting raids, surveillance of associates, collection of technical inputs, verification of suspected hideouts, and development of local intelligence.
Based on sustained human intelligence and technical surveillance, credible information regarding the movement of the accused was developed. Acting swiftly on the information, the police team conducted a well-planned operation and successfully apprehended the accused.
Officials said that investigation has revealed that the accused Tanveer along with his associates, allegedly gathered to assault the victim who was forcibly taken to a secluded location and subjected to a brutal physical assault, resulting in grievous injuries and his eventual death during treatment.
The accused has been arrested in accordance with the law and is being further questioned to ascertain his exact role in the commission of the offence and to gather evidence regarding the involvement of his other associates.
The accused Tanveer is a resident of Moti Nagar and was also previously involved in a case. An FIR against him has also been lodged at the Moti Nagar Police Station.
