The Consulate General of India in Sydney and the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre (SVCC), Sydney, have launched an extensive programme of yoga activities across New South Wales and South Australia ahead of the 12th International Day of Yoga on June 21.
Supported by the Ministry of AYUSH and the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), the initiative is designed to bring communities together through a shared focus on wellness, mindfulness and healthy living.
Organisers have invited residents to participate in yoga sessions being held at multiple venues across the two states, offering opportunities to practise yoga, meditation and breathing exercises in a welcoming community environment.
The celebrations form part of a broader global movement marking International Day of Yoga, which is observed annually in countries around the world through public events, workshops and community programmes.
This year’s theme, “Yoga for Healthy Ageing,” places special emphasis on the role yoga can play in supporting physical fitness, mental wellbeing and overall quality of life across all age groups.
Officials said the sessions are intended not only to promote the health benefits of yoga but also to encourage greater community engagement and social connection through shared participation.
Participants will have the opportunity to experience yoga as a holistic discipline that integrates physical activity, relaxation and mindfulness, helping individuals achieve greater balance in their daily lives.
The programme reflects the continuing growth of yoga in Australia, where people from diverse cultural backgrounds have embraced the practice as a valuable tool for maintaining health and wellbeing.
With preparations underway for the June 21 observance, organisers are encouraging community members to find their nearest venue and take part in the celebrations.
The upcoming events promise a day of wellness, harmony and community spirit, reinforcing yoga’s enduring appeal as one of India’s most significant contributions to global health and wellbeing.
