A large community yoga gathering is set to take place at Parramatta Square on June 20 as part of the lead-up to the 12th International Day of Yoga, bringing together wellness organisations, community groups and yoga enthusiasts from across Sydney.
The event is being organised by the Consulate General of India in Sydney and the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre, with support from the Ministry of AYUSH and the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR). Community partners include the Hindu Federation of Australia, the Australasian Association of Ayurveda, Nature Care Ayurveda, Mita Yoga & Meditation and Sydney Connexions.
Scheduled from 1 pm to 3 pm at Zone 8, Parramatta Square, the programme will offer participants an opportunity to experience yoga, meditation and mindful movement in an open-air community setting.
Organisers say the gathering is intended to celebrate the transformative benefits of yoga while encouraging people from all backgrounds to embrace healthier and more balanced lifestyles.
The event forms part of nationwide celebrations leading up to International Day of Yoga on June 21, which this year is being observed under the theme “Yoga for Healthy Ageing.”
Participants will be invited to take part in guided yoga practices and relaxation techniques aimed at promoting physical vitality, mental wellbeing and emotional balance.
According to organisers, the Parramatta programme will showcase yoga’s enduring relevance in modern life and its capacity to foster harmony, resilience and community connection.
The event is also expected to strengthen awareness of yoga as a holistic discipline that supports overall wellbeing while bringing people together through shared experiences of mindfulness and wellness.
Community members have been encouraged to register and participate in what promises to be a vibrant celebration of health, positivity and collective spirit ahead of the global observance.
The Parramatta gathering is among a series of events planned across New South Wales and South Australia as Australia joins millions of people worldwide in celebrating International Day of Yoga 2026.
