Australia and India have discussed opportunities to deepen cooperation in sport, including sports medicine, healthcare, coaching, training facilities and gender equality in sport.
The discussions took place when Consul General of India in Perth Kajari Biswas met Sally Carbon OAM, dual Olympian and Olympic gold medallist, president and Chair of Hockey WA, and Board Chair of the East Metropolitan Health Service in Western Australia.
According to the Consulate General of India in Perth, the meeting focused on identifying opportunities to strengthen cooperation between Australia and India in the sporting sector, with particular attention to sports medicine, healthcare, training facilities and coaching. The Consulate also said the discussion covered advancing gender equality in sport.
The engagement brings together India’s diplomatic representation in Western Australia and an Australian sporting figure with experience in elite competition, sports administration and healthcare leadership.
The discussion comes against a broader backdrop of Australia-India engagement through sport.
The Perth meeting also highlights the potential for cooperation beyond sporting competitions, particularly in areas connecting sport with health, athlete development, training and professional expertise.
