High Commissioner Gopal Baglay highlighted the significance of the Indian diaspora, people-to-people ties, and economic diplomacy in strengthening the relationship between Australia and India during his first visit to the Northern Territory (NT). The visit provided an opportunity for the High Commissioner to engage with the Indian community in Darwin and discuss the growing collaboration between the two nations.
High Commissioner Baglay was warmly welcomed and felicitated by the Indian community in Darwin. The Indian Cultural Society of the Northern Territory and the Hindu Council of Australia – Northern Territory chapter, along with various other diaspora cultural associations, organized a reception in his honor. The event featured traditional Indian music, dance performances, and cultural displays, showcasing the vibrant heritage of the Indian diaspora in the Northern Territory.
In his address, the High Commissioner stressed the importance of people-to-people ties as a cornerstone for furthering the Australia-India relationship. The High Commissioner was accompanied by Consul General Amarjeet Singh Takhi and Sweety Agarwal, Counsellor of the High Commission of India, Canberra.
