The Indian Air Force (IAF) contingent participating in Exercise Pitch Black 2026 has emerged victorious in the inter-contingent football tournament, adding a sporting achievement to its participation in the multinational military exercise in Australia.
The football competition brought together personnel from participating air forces, promoting teamwork, friendship and camaraderie alongside the exercise’s operational activities.
The Indian contingent, comprising around 100 Air Warriors and four Rafale fighter aircraft, is taking part in the biennial exercise in Darwin, Northern Territory, alongside air forces from across the Indo-Pacific and partner nations.
Congratulating the team, the Indian Air Force said its Air Warriors had demonstrated excellence not only during air operations but also on the football field, describing them as “Top Gun” in both arenas.
Exercise Pitch Black provides participating nations with opportunities to enhance interoperability, strengthen combat readiness and deepen defence cooperation, while sporting and cultural activities further foster professional relationships and goodwill among military personnel.
