Tributes are pouring in for a young Malanda man who died in hospital three days after a car crash near Yungaburra.
Dean Milligan, 24, and a friend were heading to work early on Saturday morning when their vehicle left the road on a bend on Lake Barrine Rd, veered down an embankment and rolled in a field.
Mr Milligan, who was in the passenger seat, suffered serious head injuries and was flown to Townsville Hospital, but was declared dead on Tuesday afternoon.
Mother Katrina Wone paid tribute to the former Malanda State High School student in a heartbreaking online post.
“May his gorgeous loving soul rest in peace. Until we meet again my beautiful son, love always, Mum,” she wrote.
Friends and family were also remembering a caring, family man and a good mate.
“Such a loving, family oriented man, caring and natural young man. Rest in peace our beautiful angel,” one person posted.
Another added: “Dean is a beautiful soul and a kind and gentle man”.
Police investigations into the crash continue with the Forensic Crash Unit calling for witnesses.
Senior Constable Lee Chamberlain said the green Mitsubishi Lancer had been travelling from Malanda towards the Gillies Highway when the crash occurred about 6am on Saturday.
He said it took place on a gradual right-hand bend in a 100km/h zone.
Police are yet to speak to the driver, a 24-year-old man also from the Malanda area, who suffered a broken ankle.
Sen-Constable Chamberlain said there was no suggestion that speed was involved.
Police were considering whether distraction and inexperience may have contributed to the accident.
The vehicle is being mechanically inspected.
“We are appealing for anyone who might have seen the green Mitsubishi Lancer coupe anywhere on the road that morning to come forward,” he said.
