Visakahapatnam, May 29 (IANS) The NIA filed charges against three CPI-Maoist operatives in a special court in Visakahapatnam in a case related to supply of explosive materials and logistical support to cadres of the banned terrorist organisation in Andhra Pradesh, an official said on Friday.

All three accused have been charged under various sections of IPC, Explosive Substances Act, and Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act in the first chargesheet in the case RC-12/2024/NIA/DLI, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) said.

Two of the chargesheeted accused, Naka Devid Raj alias Daveedu and Vijay Viswas, have been identified as overground workers (OGWs) of CPI (Maoist), it said.

They were caught red-handed and arrested by the local police en route to hand over the consignment of explosives to the third accused, Sodi Kesa – an underground CPI (Maoist) cadre, the NIA said.

The NIA investigations revealed that Devid and Vijay were engaged in procurement, transportation and supply of explosive materials to underground Maoist cadres for use in attacks on the security forces.

The counter-terrorism agency found that the accused had established links with, and were actively and knowingly providing assistance to, CPI (Maoist) members with the objective of promoting the outfit’s nefarious agenda.

Investigations by the NIA, which had taken over the case from the local police in September 2024, revealed that the entire conspiracy was aimed at helping CPI (Maoist) strengthen its operational capabilities in the region to disrupt the country’s security and stability.

An official of the NIA said in a statement that investigations to identify other linkages of the banned outfit are continuing.

Earlier in a separate case, the NIA chargesheeted six more accused, including three absconders, in connection with a Chhattisgarh CRPF camp attack by cadres of the banned CPI (Maoist) terror organisation in 2024.

A dozen CRPF personnel were injured in the attack on the Dharmavaram camp by Maoists armed with automatic weapons and indigenously manufactured Barrel Grenade Launchers (BGLs).

Besides the then newly built Dharmavaram camp, the Maoist cadres had also attacked simultaneously two more adjacent CRPF camps at Chintawagu and Pamed in District Bijapur on 16th January 2024.

The three arrested accused charge-sheeted were identified as Awalam Bhima, Madkam Nanda and Madkam Deva alias Ratan, while the charge-sheeted absconders include one Special Zonal Committee (SZC) member of the proscribed CPI (Maoist) organisation.

All six were charged under relevant sections of UA (P) Act, IPC, Arms Act and Explosive Substances Act, the NIA said in March.
