A 31-year-old Masters employee has been rushed to Cairns Hospital after he was struck by a vehicle and pinned to a wall at the Kenny Street store.
Cairns police District Duty Officer Senior Sergeant John Rhodes said the injuries were not considered to be life threatening but the man suffered severe trauma to both legs.
The incident, which occurred about 10am today, also resulted in the man receiving injuries to his head and femoral artery.
Queensland Fire and Emergency Services Cairns station manager Shane O’Connor said the man was trapped between the vehicle and the wall for about 30 minutes because paramedics had to treat his injuries before he could be moved.
Snr Sgt Rhodes said the 81-year-old driver had not been travelling fast as there were no skid marks on the road.
“The prompt action by Masters staff and bystanders certainly assisted in the recovery of the injured person,” Snr Sgt Rhodes said.
Police scenes of crime and forensic crash units and Workplace Health and Safety are investigating.
