The Consul General, Kajari Biswas, joined members of the Nepali community at a Gala Dinner organised by the Perth Nepali Mandir and Community Centre and Pashupatinath Bouddhanath of Western Australia (PBWA Inc.), lending support to an ambitious vision for a new multicultural and spiritual centre in Perth.
The fundraising and community engagement event focused on plans to establish a Multicultural Hub along with a Boudha and Hindu Temple, a project designed to serve the growing needs of Western Australia’s diverse communities.
Bringing together community leaders, supporters and well-wishers, the evening highlighted the importance of creating a dedicated space for worship, cultural preservation, education and community activities.
The Consul General commended the efforts of the organisers and volunteers who are working to transform the vision into reality, noting the important role such institutions play in strengthening multiculturalism and social cohesion.
The gathering also celebrated the longstanding relationship between India and Nepal, two nations linked by deep cultural, historical and spiritual connections. Hinduism and Buddhism, which have shaped the civilisational heritage of both countries for centuries, continue to provide a strong foundation for friendship and people-to-people ties.
Organisers said the proposed centre would not only cater to the spiritual needs of the community but also serve as a hub for cultural programmes, youth engagement, educational initiatives and inter-community dialogue.
Supporters expressed confidence that the project would become a significant landmark for Perth’s multicultural community and help preserve cultural traditions for future generations.
The event reflected the strong community backing behind the initiative and underscored a shared commitment to building a facility that promotes inclusiveness, cultural understanding and community well-being.
The gala dinner concluded on a positive note, with organisers reaffirming their determination to advance the project and create a lasting legacy for the Nepali and broader South Asian communities in Western Australia.
