Two people have died after a glider crash near Dalby on Tuesday morning.
The glider reportedly lost control while trying to land just before 10am at Bowenville, a Queensland Ambulance spokesman said.
Two men, an instructor and a student, were on board the glider at the time of the incident.
The 62-year-old instructor from Darling Downs and his 60-year-old student from Jubilee Pocket were pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
Initial information suggests the glider was attempting to land, before crashing about 30 metres short of the runway.
Gliding Federation of Australia (GFA) executive manager of operations Christopher Thorpe says the aircraft was returning from a training flight at the Darling Downs Soaring Club on Mason Road when the crash happened.
“It was 30 to 50 feet above the ground when the aircraft suddenly nosedived,” he said.
Mr Thorpe said one of the men who died was a “very experienced pilot who had been flying for a very, very long time”.
GFA’s regional manager and a senior instructor were on their way to the site to help police with investigations.
The paramedics had tried to treat the two people at the scene, who, at the time were in a critical condition a QAS spokesman said.
Firefighters, police and paramedics were called to the scene about 9.50am.
A Queensland Fire and Emergency Service spokeswoman said two crews were at the scene assisting.
