As one part of the southwest region soaks up rain, another town has been hit by a massive dust storm.
Charleville resident Belinda Percival shared photos and video of the incoming storm which has blacked out skies as it bore down on the town.
“We haven’t had a good dust storm like this in Charleville for as long as I can remember,” she said.
“(It’s) got very strong winds at the moment but unfortunately no rain yet.”
Widespread power outages have been reported across the Western Downs after heavy rainfalls and localised flooding.
Multiple roads across the region have been closed due to inundated while Ergon Energy crews scramble to restore power.
About 360 customers in towns from Jimbour west to Roma and beyond have lost power supplies.
It is believed lightning hit a power pole near Roma, causing an outage to at least 78 customers.
Other towns impacted include Jimbour (36), Quinalow (20), Brigalow (60), Miles (13), Talgai (25), Dalby (49), Flinton (37), Thallon (25) and Yuleba (16).
Estimated restoration times vary between each location, according to the Ergon Energy outage finder.
A severe thunderstorm warning for damaging winds, heavy rainfall and large hailstones remains active for parts of the region.
“Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce damaging winds, heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding and large hailstones in the warning area over the next several hours,” the bureau said.
“Locations which may be affected include Roma, Mitchell, Carnarvon National Park, Rolleston, Springsure, Blackwater, Emerald, Clermont, Gayndah, Monto, Taroom, Biloela and Baralaba.”
Heavy rains have caused localised flooding and closed roads in some parts of the Western Downs.
Jandowae Road between Dalby and Jimbour is cut in three places forcing motorists to wait for the waters to recede.
Dalby Kogan Rd is about 40cm under water with motorists advised to avoid the road.
Powerlines are also reportedly down over Kleinton Rd near Jimbour.
Ergon Energy crews are working to restore power to about 1100 customers in the Tara and Kogan areas.
Road closures are expected to continue throughout the day with heavy rainfalls forecast to continue into the afternoon.
Ballon, a small town north of Chinchilla, was drenched with 46mm of rain falling in 15 minutes.
A revised severe thunderstorm warning for damaging winds and heavy rainfall has been issued by the Bureau of Meteorology for towns including St George, Surat, Roma, Injune, Chinchilla, Taroom, heading north towards Rolleston and Townsville.
Police urge motorists to remember the “If it’s flooded, forget it” message, and drive to conditions on the wet roads.
DRENCHING rains have hit parts of the Western and Darling Downs overnight as a new severe thunderstorm warning is issued.
Dalby has recorded more than 65mm since a storm swept through the region from 9pm Monday.
The deluge has the potential to cause localised flash flooding in some parts with police urging motorists to drive to the conditions.
Toowoomba has received more than 26mm since 4pm Monday.
A storm warning for heavy rainfall was issued at 7.28 this morning for regions further west of Dalby.
The Bureau of Meteorology said the severe thunderstorm warning for damaging winds and heavy rainfall was active for parts of the Maranoa, Warrego, Darling Downs and Granite Belt regions.
“Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce damaging winds and heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding in the warning area over the next several hours,” the bureau said.
“Locations which may be affected include Dirranbandi, St George, Surat, Chinchilla, Miles, Taroom, Injune, Theodore and Moura.”
The town of Boortkoi, northwest of Chinchilla, recorded 24mm in the half hour to 7.25am, the bureau said.
Reports have emerged of flooded roads around the region including the Dalby Kogan Road near Ranges Bridge.
There are no official road closures due to flooding on the Queensland Traffic website.
