The Indian Society of Western Australia (ISWA), in partnership with Aspire, is set to organise a free community workshop on June 20 aimed at helping people of Indian origin gain a deeper understanding of Australia’s democratic and governance systems.
The workshop, titled “Australia’s Democracy and You,” will cover topics including the Australian Constitution, the country’s parliamentary framework, the roles of the three levels of government, voting rights and responsibilities, and the process of enrolling and participating in elections.
Organisers said the initiative seeks to equip participants with practical knowledge about Australian institutions and civic processes, enabling them to make informed decisions and actively engage in community and public life.
The programme will also discuss features of a strong democracy and explain preferential voting, helping attendees better understand how Australia’s electoral system functions.
Participants attending the workshop will receive certificates of participation and complimentary copies of the Australian Constitution. Light refreshments will also be provided.
ISWA said the event forms part of broader efforts to encourage civic awareness, democratic participation and stronger community engagement among Indian-origin residents in Western Australia.
