Brisbane was immersed in devotion and music on 4 May 2026 when National Award-winning vocalist Maheshji Kale presented his much acclaimed program Abhangwari at the Performing Arts Centre, Everton Park State High School.
More than a musical performance, Abhangwari was a deeply spiritual experience that recreated the sacred Wari tradition of Maharashtra. The Wari is an annual pilgrimage in which thousands of devotees walk to Pandharpur to offer their devotion to Lord Vitthal and Rakhumai.
The Brisbane event beautifully captured the essence of this centuries-old tradition. Guests were welcomed with traditional topis and tilak, and the venue was adorned with dhwaj-pataka (devotional flags), Tulsi Vrindavan, and a ceremonial palkhi carrying the idol of Sant Dnyaneshwar . presence of beautiful Idols of Vitthal and Rakhumai blessed the whole event. A joyful dindi procession through the auditorium created an atmosphere that closely resembled the devotional pilgrimage to Pandharpur.
One of the most distinctive aspects of the program was its English narration, which enabled younger generations and non-Marathi-speaking audiences to understand the significance of Abhang. This inclusive approach reflected Mahesh Kale’s belief that anyone can sing and everyone can experience the joy of music.
The narration and chorus were performed by local Brisbane artists, whose participation added a strong community dimension to the production. Mahesh Kaleji also engaged directly with the audience, encouraging them to join in singing traditional chants such as “Jai Jai Ram Krishna Hari” and “Shri Ram Jai Ram Jai Jai Ram.” As the evening progressed, many in the audience were moved to sing, clap, and dance, creating a powerful sense of shared devotion.
A special ‘Anyone can sing’ workshop was also conducted by Mahesh Kale the day before the performance, offering music enthusiasts an opportunity to learn from and interact with the acclaimed artist.
The event was attended by respected community dignitaries Umesh Chandra and Usha Chandra, Sakhi Rai Prabhu and Vraj Laxmi Dasi from Hare Krishna Temple, Burbank.
Abhangwari in Brisbane was presented by C&G Entertainment Brisbane under the leadership of Santosh Revadekar. Over the past year, C& G Entertainment has brought six major events to Brisbane, including popular Marathi dramas, comedy shows, and musical performances, making a significant contribution to the city’s vibrant cultural landscape.
For many attendees, the evening was far more than a concert. Immersed in bhakti ras, they felt transported to the lotus feet of Lord Pandurang in Pandharpur. For one unforgettable evening, Brisbane did not simply host a musical program—it became Pandharpur itself.
