Consulate to host screening of documentary ‘From India With Love’ on Sept 1

The Consulate General of India in Brisbane will host a special screening of the acclaimed documentary ‘From India With Love’, followed by an interactive Q&A session with its producer and director, Mandar Apte. The event will take place on September 1 from 6–8 pm AEST at the Consulate premises in Toowong.

The documentary tells the moving story of six victims of violence from across the United States who embarked on a transformational journey to India. Inspired by the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., who himself travelled to India to study nonviolence, the film highlights how exposure to India’s spiritual traditions helped the participants find healing and renewed strength.

The diverse group featured in the documentary includes a mother whose son was killed in the Sandy Hook school shooting, her best friend, a former Los Angeles gang member, an educator from New Jersey, a social entrepreneur, and a music scholar — both of whom are Black Lives Matter activists. Despite their different backgrounds, they are united by their lived experiences of violence and their shared desire to spark meaningful conversations about nonviolence in America.

Attendees at the Brisbane event will also have the opportunity to meet Mandar Apte in person, hear his inspiring journey, and engage in dialogue on the urgent need to promote peace, compassion, and nonviolence worldwide.

The program is being organised with the support of community collaborators and promises to be an evening of reflection, cultural exchange, and inspiration.
